Ferring C.E. Primary School

A place to grow

The National Curriculum for Computing, which replaces ICT, aims to ensure all pupils enjoy an exciting and rigorous curriculum that addresses the challenges and opportunities offered by the technologically rich world in which we live.

The details of the curriculum can be found here - Computing Primary National Curriculum.

Through our delivery of the three aspects of the Computing curriculum (computer science, information technology and digital literacy) all children:

  • Can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstract, logic, algorithms and data representation.
  • Can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems.
  • Can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems.
  • Are responsible, competent, confident and create users of information and communication technology.

At Ferring CE Primary School we have invested in a new Scheme of work called Switched on Computing.  The scheme is full of hands-on, creative units of work using the latest software.   The series offers teachers original ways in which to run computing lessons that will engage every pupil, as they investigate different professions as a context for learning.  The programme:

o   Delivers clear progression in skills from Year 1 to Year 6.

o   Embeds e-safety to ensure safe and responsible use of technology.

o   Includes six units for each year group, covering; programming, computational thinking, creativity, computer networks, communication and collaboration, productivity.

We are looking forward to engaging each and every pupil through new and inspiring topics that meet the needs of the New National Curriculum.
