Spring 2016

January - Hot School Meals

This term our long awaited new school kitchen has been busy as the children have started to enjoy our hot school lunches.  There has been a steadily growing uptake of  hot meals and the children have been enjoying the variety of options available to them.

January - Year 4 Drumming Concert

Singapore class demonstrated the skills and techniques they have been learning whilst playing the Djembe drums with Mr Gilmore.  Their growing abilities are becoming more and more evident and all of the audience, KS2 children and visitors alike, really enjoyed the concert in which the children in Year 4 gave a demonstration of some of the work they have been doing.

January - Science Week

Our first week back this term saw the children in all classes enjoying Science week.  The theme for the week was 'Making Sense of Science' and every class, every day focused on investigations and experiments about different senses; sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch.  The children really enjoyed being immersed in science activities and developed a great deal of knowledge as well as investigative skills.  In February some of the children will be showcasing their work with the other Primary schools in our locality at a Science Fayre held at The Angmering School.  We will be very proud to show all the hard work the children carried out.

February - Locality Science Fayre

Six of our children (two from Year 2, Year 4 and Year 6) joined children from the other schools in the Angmering Locality Group to showcase the work they carried out during Science Week.  They had to set up, demonstrate and explain a variety of experiments to the guests invited to the event, which included parents/carers and Headteachers.  Before they began they enjoyed a science show put on by the staff at The Angmering School which the children thought was spectacular.  Well done to Chloe, Ralph, Harmony, Thomas, Paige and Gaius, who all played the part of 'Professor' extremely well.  They shared their experiments with confidence and showed just how knowledgeable they have become about Science.  Thank you to all the parents that joined us as well.  We are sure you would agree it was a very enjoyable experience and the children did you, and us, proud.

March - Book Week

The children have enjoyed a fantastic Book Week.  There were a variety of activities taking place all linked to great quality books and designed to encourage a love of reading for the children.  Activities included: Staff dressing up as Mr Men and Little Miss characters, children and staff dressing as book characters, visits to Ferring Library and creating books, stories and characters of their own.  Every child in the school took part in writing a wonderful adventure story.  It began in Year 6 and was passed on to each class until the conclusion was written by Reception class.  It is an entertaining story full of imagination which shows just what gifted writers we have at Ferring.  Click on the book below to enjoy their story for yourself.

As well as this we all enjoyed and afternoon when staff, helpers and relatives of the children came in to read from their favourite children’s stories.  There were adults in every corner of the school reading, as children could choose which story they wanted to hear, sit back, relax and enjoy a good story.  We are grateful to everyone who came in to take part.  There was a lovely atmosphere and one parent commented:

“There was a lovely buzz around the school this afternoon.  There were groups of children enjoying reading beautiful stories in every nook and cranny of the school.  Just lovely.  Good ideas folk!”

Well done to all the children and staff, particularly our English leader, Miss Squires, for your hard work and dedication to reading.
